Growing food, knowledge and resilience
The program is intended to create practical food-growing opportunities suited to High Desert conditions. Greenhouses can support microgreen production and protected growing, while community garden areas can give residents places to learn, participate and grow food together.
Planned edible forests would use food-producing trees and perennial plants to demonstrate longer-term, water-conscious approaches to community food access and desert sustainability.
Planned elements
- Microgreen-growing facilities
- Greenhouses for protected production
- Community garden plots and shared growing areas
- Edible forests with food-producing perennial plants
- Fresh-food access and community distribution
- Hands-on education for youth and adults
This program is in development. Its scale, schedule and services depend on facility completion, partnerships and funding.
Education is built in
Learning by growing
Education will connect the entire program: planting and harvesting microgreens, greenhouse skills, water-wise gardening, soil health, nutrition, food preparation and sustainable desert living. Programming can expand over time as facilities and partnerships grow.
